Running Tights and Compression Socks (2015)
Newby takes the domestic interior and, more specifically, a fictitious interior as his starting point; the ordinary and homespun accoutrements of intimate space reflected as an infinitely charged connotative platform. For Studio_Leigh, his fused glass door reflects the above interests, as well as space in a flat image. The door becomes a very matter of fact architectural element that relies immediately on whether or not it has actively been given any formal attention. And a stained glass door, if put in the right location, becomes a very active participant in a space. Depending on its placement or time of day, Newby’s work can engage with a space in myriad ways.
